COVID-19 Vegan Food Relief Efforts in NYC

Students

We’re providing plant-based groceries to students and their families in Brownsville, Brooklyn and Motts Haven, the Bronx. One of our main organizers, Eloisa Trinidad, moved by an article in the early days of the pandemic, that stated that NYC was not prepared to provide enough food for the students who would not be receiving their school meals, sprung into action, and spurred our food relief efforts. She sets up alongside DOE sites

Individual Requests from Families

We are open for requests of groceries from families. We are currently doing no-contact delivery drop-offs of groceries. Our average size per household is 4 to 6 people. The longer that people are unable to work, with unemployment benefits taking so long to kick in, families are struggling to put food on their table. We are currently serving Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx, and doing daily deliveries of vegan groceries. Our volunteer drivers, transport the food across the city following all safety protocols.

Micro Food Pantry Neighborhood Tables

We have a series of tables setup weekly throughout the city where neighbors can come in and pick up necessary items. Our tables are found in Bushwick, Crown Heights, Flatbush, and Sunnyside Queens. Volunteers set these up in front of their homes, and collect information of people who need further support.

Hot Meal Shares

Our traditional hot meal shares continue every Saturday in Tompkins Square Park, and in Sunnyside Queens; as well as every Friday in Harlem. We serve people going through houselessness, and those that are food-insecure. Everyone can come and grab a hot vegan meal from us.
