This cake is a traditional family recipe passed down through generations in Northern Germany – now in the pocket of an Afro-Puerto Rican that unapologetically inserted themselves into the family tree. Enjoy with a side of community, heart-felt conversations, and justice. This recipe comes courtesy of Julia Feliz Brueck from Sanctuary Publishers!

Instructions

For Dough…

Heat milk until to finger warm. Flake yeast and mix with milk. Add with other ingredients until a homogeneous mixture forms that falls easily off the mixer. You may have to add a bit more flour or milk. Cover with cling film and let the dough rise in a warm spot until dough has doubled in size.

For Topping…
Mix all ingredients until a crumbly mass forms. Eventually add more flour to achieve this. Refrigerate until use.

Preparing the Cake…

In a rectangular 30×50 cm cake form Spread dough until about 1 to 1.5 cm thick. With your fingers, crumble the topping over the dough to 1cm thickness. Place in a pre-heated oven at 180c until a toothpick comes out clean.
