The last two weeks were tough, empty and draining weeks. But since writing the last post, many people have come forward offering kind words of encouragement, advice, and inspiration, and sometimes that is all it takes to redirect our efforts and fill our hearts. I concentrated on self-care and made it a point of drinking a lot of water (you would be amazed how dehydration really changes your mood) and I am now back to normal, feeding my heart so that it may feed others.
Last Saturday we distributed 101 vegan chili, 118 water bottles, a big bag of loaves of bread, and 4 vegan dog food bags to the homeless and the community. This was made possible thanks to contributions made by Neal Sehgal, Annie Hudson, and Richard Cruz. A huge thanks to our veganteers Ivan, Julianna, Jessica, Isabella, Lily, Jimmy, Anthony, Christopher, Bear, and Ollie.
Our distribution was uneventful: we met the same folks that depend on us for their Saturday lunch. Some of them brought friends. It was really nice to see them come with other people and introduce them to us. Our friend Maria asked us for a meal to take so that she may have something to eat on Sunday. This really touched me. Maria is a sweet lady, quiet, harboring a universe of stories that she keeps to herself. I gave her a chili to take home and promised her I would be back this week.
Folks, we are running dangerously low on our funds. If you can donate, we would really appreciate it and it would mean that we are able to continue providing a vegan meal to people like Maria, and Hector, and Israel, and Martha, and 100-200 others every week and in 5 different states. Please visit http://www.chilisonwheels.org/donate/ and make a tax deductible donation. Help us dish out compassion!
